Engine maintenance: providing a strong “heart” for excavators
12 Apr,2025
The engine is the power source of the excavator, and its health is related to the performance of the entire machine. Maintenance focuses on the four major systems of fuel, air intake, lubrication and cooling. The use of inferior diesel or a clogged air filter will directly lead to a decrease in engine power, black smoke, increased internal wear, and shortened overhaul cycles.
Operators need to check the oil level and quality every day, and replace the engine oil, engine filter, diesel filter, and air filter according to prescribed intervals. The cooling system needs to use designated antifreeze, and dust and debris on the radiator surface must be cleaned regularly to prevent the engine from overheating. Bad operating habits such as long periods of idling or sudden load increases and decreases should also be avoided.
A well-maintained engine not only has lower fuel consumption and better emissions, but also provides sustained and stable power. For a properly maintained engine, the overhaul time can easily exceed 10,000 hours. Its stability provides the most basic guarantee for the project completion on schedule and is a key link in equipment management that cannot be missed.
